Published on October 29th, 2012

Hey Family! This week we’re going to be taking a listen to my favorite 5 albums of October. Grabbing those essential audio vibes before the months out is crucial in the internet age. Their’s so many great artist releasing material it can be kinda tough to keep up. I feel as though its my job to try and help ease the listening process. Lets get it crackin!

1.) Kendrick Lamar – good kid, mA.A.d city

I’ve been a fan of TDE for sometime now and I must say that Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest things to happen to Hip-Hop culture to date. Good Kid, MAAD City isn’t just an album to me, this is a full on movie or in Kendrick’s case an audio visual manifesto. Compton California has deep historic roots in hiphop culture starting with groups like N.W.A , DJ Quik, The Game, and of course Dr.Dre. I without a doubt believe that K Dot cemented  his place in not only Compton rap history, but embarking on his way to becoming a legend in the music industry. This album is a literally a journey through CPT in Kendrick’s Mother’s mini van. Enjoy the ride!

2.) Flying Lotus- Until The Quiet Comes

After taking a 2 year break from solo projects the Lotus is back with his new album Until The Quiet Comes. The wait was well worth it, this album is a must listen for any downtempo fans out there. With Dilla like attributes Flying Lotus is becoming a master at his Lo-Fi productions. Tracks like “Getting There” and “Putty Boy Strut are examples of the classic Jay-Dee influence. The creativity, engineering, and clarity of theses recordings blew my mind , it was a pleasure to hear this album in its entirety!

3.) Ryan Leslie – Les Is More

R-Les finally released his highly anticipated album Les Is More!  Ryan Leslie is possibly the most talented individual in the music game. I know thats a bold statement but with the “5 Minute Freshen Up” video below you might just think the same. Mr.Leslie is a self produced artist playing the main foundation of all of his tracks minus a few specialize session musicians. Les Is More is his debut Rap/R&B album and he delivers. If you had any doubt that R-Les couldn’t spit give this a good listen and take notes on real artistry. It’s time for the game to fully wake up and embrasse Ryan Leslie’s music and creative vision.

4.) Deadmau5 – >Album Title Goes Here<

Joel Zimmerman a.k.a deadmau5 is a household name in the EDM world. The Ontario native’s newest project Album Title Goes Here is a good mixture of vibes throughout the electronic spectrum. I was really intrigued by the variety of the electronic productions done on this album. I loved all of the different tempos and styles incorporated in this project. Each song had a different dynamic to it such as a hiphop electro song with Cypress Hill to a more downtempo cut with Imogen Heap. I really enjoyed this listen and I can’t wait to see how he transfers these new songs to the stage.

5.) Piff Gang- Piff Breaks & 808s

Climaxing followers might recall me talking about the UK HipHop group Piff Gang. This week I’d like to put you on their mixtape Piff Breaks & 808s. This isn’t an exclusive October release , in fact it was released in 2011 but I recently discovered it and decided to share. I’m a music man but HipHop is certainly my forte and these guys got it! Amazing production, dope rhymes, and killer swagger with the british accents makes this a dope listen. I’ve honestly been very critical of UK hiphop in the past because of the lack of flow. Due to internet culture; acts all over the world are able to study different types of artist and genres, the possibilites of influence is limitless. I recommend PG for anyone who loves the 4 elements of hiphop. I’m glad to see the culture I love so much prosper in different areas of the world.
