PRESS RELEASE:
SNAP! 2011 BRINGS WORLD-CLASS PHOTOGRAPHY TO ORLANDO
Renowned National and International Artists Descend On Orlando for the Second Annual Snap! Orlando Photography Event
Orlando, Florida, USA – Snap! Orlando, the 5-day photography celebration, runs May 04-08, 2011 in Downtown Orlando and will showcase the celebrated work of international and national photographers, as well as emerging local talent.
Snap! 2011 will feature multi-venue exhibits, artist receptions, seminars, student and community competitions, youth program, and more. This year’s theme, “Perception & Reality”, offers a broad range of exhibits, projections, and installations carefully curated to appeal to diverse artistic tastes.
Headlining artists include Master photographer Jerry Uelsmann, whose photographs are in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art, and his wife Maggie Taylor an award-winning and internationally published still life and digital image artist. Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and abroad and is in numerous public and private collections worldwide.
Our guest of honor, globally revered Kathy Eldon will be lecturing and bringing the celebrated Dan Eldon Traveling Exhibit (the creative art journals of Kathy’s son Dan Eldon, a young photojournalist who was slain in Somalia in 1992 when he was only 22 years old). This dynamic exhibit aims to inspire audiences to use their own creative talents as a means of personal expression and social commentary.
Snap! will also host the world premiere of The Murder City Project, an art-noir photography series from Orlando photographer Barry Kirsch and is excited to introduce its 2011 “Snap! Discovery”: Ukrainian artist Elena Vizerskaya, whose astonishing surrealist work will be exhibited for the first time in the U.S. at this event.
“It will be a feast for the senses” says Kahn. “In addition to the superb art, this year’s event also offers receptions with international photographers, a larger-than-life outdoor photography projection, music, a curated fashion show, spoken word performance, and a family-friendly Mother’s Day and youth art event on Sunday. Our hope is that attendees will truly enjoy Snap! and walk away from the event thoroughly inspired.”
