Opening Weekend at Amway Center

Published on October 5th, 2010

Opening weekend at the Amway Center was a HUGE affair, family affair to be exact. Reminded me of Disney World, lines, crowds and good scenery. But all in all the Amway Center is breathtaking… I know it’s kind of unnecessary for Orlando to have this entirely new and expensive Arena but I must say it’s kind of worth it. We’re already getting the 2012 All Star Game as a result of this arena so hopefully it will pump some much needed funds back into our city.

The Amway Center is gigantic, three huge stories and a ton of modern features that add that unique touch. The entrance is museum like, sponsored by Disney with a 2 story collage/mural of Dwight Howard that is extremely intricate and magnificent!  On the third floor you will find the OZONE, a kid-friendly play area with computer (touch screen) games and fun activities for the little fans. Sponsorship is over the top with Air Tran & Kia having clearly visible sections IN the arena. A fun fact that I learned on my visit was the ecological efforts of building this facility, they implemented an eco-friendly electricity plan that reduces emissions and saves thousands of dollars a year.

Well all I can say is GO MAGIC! I am ready for basketball season to start!
